Large-scale urban transitions, such as the relocation of a national capital, generate profound uncertainty by disrupting established institutional arrangements and social routines. While previous research has investigated resource integration and value co-creation primarily in stable service contexts, little is known about how those processes unfold under conditions of liminality. This study investigates how liminality shapes resource integration and value co-creation during the establishment of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara.

The study applies an inductive, theory-building case study design, based on semi-structured in-depth interviews with government officials, industry practitioners and relocated residents, complemented by an analysis of policy documents. The findings show that liminality functions as a generative condition that disrupts existing institutional logics, heightens interdependence among actors and enables new forms of collaboration. The study develops the Liminality-Induced Resource Integration and Co-Creation (LIRIC) model.

All interested colleagues and doctoral students are welcome.
