In the third decade of the 2000s, we are witnessing the emergence of new phenomena in higher education. Behind these developments lies the continued — and now truly global — expansion of higher education, as well as the fact that rapid technological progress has fundamentally transformed the economic and social environment surrounding higher education, and reshaped the sector’s relationship with this new context. This relationship has become incomparably more complex than before, making it less transparent both for the actors involved and for researchers studying the field. 

The 2026/2 issue of the journal Educatio does not aim to explore a single thematic dimension of higher education research in depth. Instead, it focuses on phenomena that have appeared almost simultaneously in recent years (or were previously known but have now gained strength), and it is precisely this temporal convergence that connects them. Understanding these developments may help us grasp ongoing processes of change and contribute to debates about the mission of higher education institutions and the emergence of future higher education models. 

The presentation will be followed by a discussion with the authors and higher education experts. The language of the event will be Hungarian.
