We are commemorating the 1956 Revolution at the University Film Club in November
10 Nov. 2026, 6:00 PM
In November, we will screen the documentary 'From Caisson to Corvin-köz: Roma Politics in the 1950s' by Dániel Havasi, followed by a discussion with historian János M. Rainer.

Date: Tuesday 10 November 2026, 18:00
Venue: 1093 Budapest, Fővám tér 8, Faculty Club
Language of the screening and discussion: Hungarian
The documentary explores the participation of the Roma community in the 1956 Revolution. The Roma insurgents came mainly from the poorer, working-class districts of Budapest – for example, Ferencváros (Vágóhíd Street, ‘Dzsumbuj’) and the area around the Mária Valéria housing estate. They played an active role in the groups on Corvin köz, Tűzoltó utca, Práter utca and in almost every armed group.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion. Guest expert: historian János Rainer M.
