  • finish your in-person enrolment,

  • check the sample curriculum for your programme,
  • check whether you have any Intensive Week courses,
  • plan your timetable.

For students admitted through DreamApply subject registration becomes available after you have completed your enrolment (in-person or through an authorised representative).

Subject registration opens at different times during the day on 31 August 2026:

  • Bachelor’s and single-cycle programmes: from 10:00 on 31 August
  • Master’s programmes: from 13:00 on 31 August
  • Specialist Posgraduate Degrees and other programmes: from 15:00 on 31 August
The Sample Curriculum is a recommended guide that shows, throughout your programme:
  • the subject codes and names,
  • which subjects you need to complete,
  • the recommended order and semester in which you should take each subject,
  • the number of credits each subject is worth,
  • the nature of the subject (compulsory (C), compulsory elective (CE), elective (E)),
  • the course type (lecture or practical course),
  • the method of assessment (practical grade (PG), exam (EX), signature (A), comprehensive examination (CE)),
  • whether the subject has any prerequisites,
  • equivalent subjects, which, in certain cases, may replace the completion of the given subject.
You can find your Sample Curriculum in Neptun: Neptun → Studies → Advancement. You can find more information about the study programmes here. As a first-year student, it is recommended that you register for the first-semester subjects listed in your Sample Curriculum. This will help you progress through your programme at the recommended pace and avoid extending your studies later due to prerequisites or subjects that are offered less frequently.

What is the difference between a subject and a course?

  • A subject is an academic requirement (e.g. Microeconomics or Mathematics 1).
  • A course is a specific class offered for a subject. A subject may have several courses with different schedules, lecturers or languages.
  • If both a lecture and a practical course are offered for a subject, you must register for both courses.

Types of subjects

  • Compulsory subject: A subject required to complete your programme, which you must complete in order to obtain your degree.
  • Compulsory elective subject: You must complete a specified number of credits from a particular group of subjects, but you can generally choose from several options.
  • Elective subject: A subject you can choose based on your interests or individual plans. These subjects allow you to complete the elective credits required by your programme.
  • Criterion subject: A requirement that must be completed as part of the programme and generally does not carry credits.
  1. Open Neptun → Subjects → Register for subject
  2. Select the current semester
  3. Find the subject you want to register for
  4. Select the appropriate course(s)
  5. Click the Add Subject button

If you cannot register for a course, Neptun will indicate the reason in a notification.

  • Always check the course language under Details! If you use the Neptun in English, all course names will appear in English, but they may be held in Hungarian! Make sure to choose the course with the appropriate language!
  • Make sure there are no timetable clashes
  • Note that for some subjects, you must register for both a lecture and a practical course
  • Check the prerequisites.
  • Review your timetable before the end of the course registration period

The most common reasons are:

  • you have not completed the prerequisite;
  • you have reached the maximum number of times the subject can be taken;
  • you have remaining debt in Neptun;
  • your semester has not been activated;
  • the current semester has not been selected;
  • the course is full;
  • the course cannot be registered for due to a timetable clash;
  • you would exceed the permitted number of credits.

If Neptun does not allow you to register for a subject, the system will indicate the reason for the error in a notification.

  • An intensive week (project week) course is a course that is not held regularly throughout the entire teaching period, but is completed during a shorter, consecutive period.
  • In the autumn semester of the 2026/27 academic year, the Intensive Week will take place from 7 to 11 September 2026. Registration for intensive week (project week) courses takes place from 31 August to 3 September 2026.
  • Not every student has an intensive week course.
  • Intensive week courses are listed in your programme’s Sample Curriculum or among the advertised courses.

How can I identify project week courses?

You can identify them by the course code. The course code ends with the designation “-P”, e.g. E01-P, G02-P, etc.

In the 2026/27 academic year, intensive week courses will be offered for the following programmes and subjects:

If you are unsure whether you are affected, check your Neptun messages or the information provided by your programme.

We recommend taking the number of credits specified in the Sample Curriculum for the given semester – this is generally 27–33 credits.

  • Maximum: You can register for a maximum of 42 credits in one semester.
  • Minimum: To maintain your student status, you must complete at least 15 credits during your first two consecutive active semesters.
  • Scholarships: If you receive any type of scholarship, its requirements may specify a higher semester workload than the minimum requirement.

If you want to find out whether a subject has a prerequisite, you can check it in Neptun as follows:

  1. Click on the subject name in the Register for subject menu.
  2. In the menu that appears, select Subject prerequisites.
  3. Click Details on the right-hand side of the selected course to find further information.

Always check the language of the course! In Neptun, click Details on the right-hand side of the selected course to see which language the course is offered in.

For some Bachelor’s programmes, the same subject may be available in Hungarian, English or German according to the Sample Curriculum.
