Ten small tables have been refurbished by the Campus Services team in the spirit of sustainability

The aim of our ‘Staff Changemakers’ initiative is to showcase the actions we take in our day-to-day lives towards sustainability and social responsibility.

Instead of replacing them, the Campus Services team refurbished ten small tables. The tables in the Napközi were due for replacement, but following an idea from Eliza Trencsényi-Kiss, the old ones were given a new chance instead of being replaced with new furniture. The idea was brought to life by Attila Frank, a maintenance colleague at the University. Thanks to his work, the existing tables were refurbished and returned to the community space.

One of the principles of the circular economy is that things do not necessarily need to be replaced. In many cases, objects can be given a new lease of life through repair, refurbishment or redesign, saving resources, and reducing waste.

There is another important message in this story. Making the university more sustainable requires more than just strategies and large-scale institutional programmes. Real change often stems from the ideas, knowledge, and day-to-day work of our colleagues, which often remain out of the spotlight. This is why we would like to showcase them – the Corvinus Changemakers – in our stories.

Do you recognise yourself in this description? Or do you know an ‘invisible changemaker’ at Corvinus who is taking valuable, if small, steps towards making the university more sustainable and responsible in their day-to-day work? Do you have an idea that could make campus operations more sustainable through reuse, repair or redesign?

Send us your ideas or stories at dean.sustainability@uni-corvinus.hu, and we will showcase them to the wider university community. If needed, we can also help you implement them and build connections.

In addition, we are supporting the establishment of a staff Changemakers group following the model of the student group. We welcome colleagues who are committed to sustainability and social responsibility to join this self-organizing community, where they can share ideas and take action together. Further details will be provided shortly, but in the meantime, applications can be sent to the address above.
