IR TALKS 8 – NATO Enlargement, Russian backlash, and Options for Peace

22 Oct. 2025, 7:00 PM - 7:10 PM
2025.10.22. 19:00 – 2025.10.22. 19:10

International relations theorist Hall Gardner (American University of Paris) will deliver a lecture that explores opportunities around Partnership for Peace.

Date: 22 October 2025,19:10-20:40

Location: Corvinus University of Budapest, building C, C.104

Language of the event: English

With a view to resolving conflict between the US, the European countries and NATO on the one hand and Russia on the other, especially over Ukraine, the lecture proposes that an enhanced Partnership for Peace (PfP) should be re-considered. An international PfP peacekeeping force could be deployed in Ukraine assuming a sustainable peace settlement can eventually be negotiated—instead of an all-European coalition as has been proposed. The development and implementation of an enhanced Partnership for Peace would represent a first step toward the establishment of a new system of European and global security.

Speaker: Hall Gardner (American University of Paris).

The talk will be moderated by Péter Marton (Department of International Relations, Institute of Global Studies, Corvinus University of Budapest).

IR TALKS is a series of guest and roundtable talks organised by the Department of International Relations at Corvinus University to make sense of the world we live in at a time of turbulent international politics.
