In the second film of Márta Mészáros’s acclaimed Diary trilogy, the story unfolds in the shadow of the Rákosi dictatorship, Stalinism, and the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Once again, Mészáros explores the anatomy of lies.
Diary for My Lovers is a film about identity and the search for home, as Juli must choose between the landscapes of her childhood (the Soviet Union) and her adolescence (Budapest).
