The Institute of Data Analytics and Information Systems announces an open call for applications for the Associate Professor position (full-time) for an indefinite period for the spring semester 2026/27.

Job description and key duties

Teaching duties:

  • Teaching of subjects belonging to the education portfolio of the Institute of Data Analytics and Information Systems, in weekly class hours as defined by the Academic Career Model. 

Teaching responsibilities include:

  • Designing and delivering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral-level courses in applied AI, including topics such as generative AI/agentic AI, responsible AI, data science, green AI, and AI systems deployment.
  • Developing practice-oriented curricula that integrate real-world datasets, industry case studies, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Supervising student projects, theses, and capstone work with strong applied business and industry relevance.
  • Contributing to the development of new and ongoing academic programs and concentrations, such as MSC programs in AI.

Research duties:

  • Writing articles in prestigious international and domestic journals in the field of applied AI, AI systems, or domain-specific AI (e.g., financial AI, AI in HR).
  • Participating at important international and domestic conferences, building international scientific relationships, getting involved in research projects, active research application activity in the field of applied AI, thus securing the resources of the research projects and contributing to the internationalisation of the Institute and the University.
  • Lead interdisciplinary research initiatives bridging AI with other fields.
  • Maintain an active, externally funded research agenda in applied AI.

Service duties:

  • Active participation in the professional life of the Institute of Data Analytics and Information Systems and the University, performing service tasks determined by the head of the Institute.
  • Lead or contribute to applied AI labs, centers, or innovation hubs.
  • Secure industry-sponsored research and applied projects.
  • Supporting early-career academics at the university, supervising PhD students, as well as students participating in student competitions 
  • Mentoring assistant professor colleagues in the Institute.

    • a professional Curriculum Vitae
    • Presentation of the research career: research activities (inc. grants) and the connections thereof, the specific individual contributions to the research projects reported in the publications, the expected impact of the publications, plans for further research projects and grants,
    • Presentation of the teaching career: presentation of Hungarian and foreign language university courses taught (course portfolio); subject leader roles; teaching philosophy, pedagogical innovations and development, future plans (teaching portfolio, pedagogical innovations, etc.);
    • Presentation of the service career: past and planned contributions to administration and the University;

  • Cover letter, including the presentation of future academic plans (educational, teaching development, and research plans)
  • References written by at least two professors or researchers of the discipline with a high reputation (signed, scanned)
  • Publications which the Candidate meets the minimum requirements
  • Scanned copies of the documents verifying the university degree, scientific rank (eg, PhD degree), and of the documents verifying other professional qualifications. (In case of scientific ranks obtained abroad, the nostrification will be arranged in the next phase of the selection procedure.)

The Associate Professor of Applied Artificial Intelligence will provide leadership in teaching, research, and service in the rapidly evolving field of applied AI. This role emphasizes translating AI methods into real-world impact across domains such as finance, public sector, HR, or engineering. Preferred candidates will have experience working in interdisciplinary environments, such as the application of AI in business, or other cross-domain settings. They will also demonstrate a strong track record of business, industry collaboration, applied research partnerships, and/or technology transfer initiatives. The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives, develop externally funded research programs, and engage with industry and community partners.
