As of 18 March, the Hungarian government has extended the nation-wide lockdown that was announced earlier this month. Since the number of Covid-19 cases is still growing, the following measures are to be kept in force:

  • The curfew remains in place between 8:00 p.m. and 5 a.m. for all citizens.
  • All non-essential shops and services must remain closed and suspended for a two-week period. Restaurants can only operate via takeout and delivery.
  • Fitness centers and gyms stay closed. Outdoor sports activities are permitted if the minimum 1.5-meter distance can be kept. Professional athletes must compete behind closed doors.
  • International travel will be tightened.
  • Digital learning in higher education remains in place.
  • Employers are asked to ensure their employees can work from home if possible.
  • Public areas and parks remain open.
  • Free public parking.

The restrictions are expected to ease on April 19.
