The Professor Emeritus of the Institute of Strategy and Management at Corvinus University earned the award granted in recognition of an outstanding lifetime achievement in the field of business management.

We spoke with Péter Eső, an alumnus of Corvinus and the Rajk College for Advanced Studies, about his journey from Budapest to Harvard, and later, fifteen years ago, to the University of Oxford. While pursuing research in game theory and theoretical microeconomics, he has remained closely connected to his Hungarian roots, regularly returning to Rajk and maintaining professional collaborations with the Institute of Economics and other colleges for advanced studies. In his view, Corvinus has been on a clearly upward trajectory in the international arena in recent years, and the professional standards of some of its institutes can confidently be compared to those of strong Dutch and German universities.

Competing in the Olympics and standing on the podium at domestic and international competitions is a great honour. At the same time, being a top athlete involves many challenges and compromises. When experts reanalysed the data behind a quarter of social and behavioural science publications, they reached different conclusions from the original authors. This highlights the methodological sensitivity of research findings, according to a large international study based on mass collaboration and co-led by Corvinus University, published in Nature.

The 2026 final of the Economics Olympiad was held on 26 March at Corvinus University of Budapest. The competition was won by Domán Nacsa, a student of Ferenc Erkel Secondary School in Gyula.

Corvinus alumna Petra Hajdu-Pásztor now leads her own startup in the international cruise industry. Her story demonstrates that with the right background and determination, a well-identified market problem can be turned into a successful business. At the Annual Alumni Reunion on June 11, Corvinus University will once again recognize its outstanding alumni, following last year’s tradition.
