Credit recognition procedure
The credit recognition procedure must be carried out for all applicants for a Master’s programme who have not obtained a degree in a Bachelor’s programme (or who obtained a degree in the summer examination period) that is eligible for full credit from a Hungarian higher education institution. The credit requirements table will help you to determine whether it is necessary to complete the procedure for any given Master’s programme.
Key steps and decision types
- Submission of the request
- Applicants to a Master’s programme who do not hold a Hungarian Bachelor’s degree eligible for full credit must submit by the last day of the written exam period of the month.
- Requests are submitted electronically via the DreamApply, separately for each Master’s programme if applying to multiple ones. A task for submitting the request will automatically appear once you are invited to take the entrance exam.
- The form requires personal details, previous institution(s), courses to be recognised, and corresponding credits and grades.
- Supporting documents
- Official documents certifying the completed courses (transcript of records, diploma supplement, etc.) will be reviewed based on the documents you have uploaded to your DreamApply profile.
- Documents must be signed or stamped by the issuing institution or electronically certified, and be legible.
- Be mindful that without these documents, the request is invalid and will not be processed.
- Evaluation and outcome
- The credit transfer committee reviews the submitted request and documents.
- Applicants receive the credit recognition decision by email. It will also be uploaded to the applicant’s DreamApply profile.
No further action is required. Types of decisions in the credit recognition process
- Full recognition: all credits and grades for the submitted courses are accepted, so no additional coursework is required for those subjects.
- Partial recognition: only some credits or parts of the courses are accepted; the student must complete the remaining credits or requirements.
- Rejection: the submitted credits are not recognised due to insufficient match with programme requirements or missing documentation.
- Request for additional documents: the committee may ask for further documents before making a final decision.
We advise you to check the credit requirements carefully before applying, to ensure you qualify.
Detailed description
1. The credit recognition request process
The credit recognition request must be submitted by the last day of the written exam period of the month. Requests will be assessed by the Credit Transfer Committee. You will receive a credit recognition decision by email. It will also be uploaded to your DreamApply profile. You do not need to upload the decision anywhere.
The request must be submitted electronically under the corresponding DreamApply task.
2. How to complete the credit recognition form.
Fields that must be filled out are marked with an asterisk. You cannot proceed further in the request without filling them out.

After providing your personal details, the request should indicate the current/former institution(s) and studies from which you wish to have the credits recognised. More than one course or institution may be indicated, please separate them by commas.

The credit recognition requirements for each Master’s programme are then shown. You can move between pages by clicking on the “Next” and “Back” buttons.

The fields of study and subjects for each Master’s programme are listed below, on a separate page for each field of study.

Please enter the name, credit value and grade of the subject you have studied and wish to have accepted as a subject in the relevant field of knowledge/subject. The listed subjects may be replaced by subjects with similar names.
e.g.: you have studied Statistics in your Bachelor’s degree. In this case, the name of the subject should be entered in the “Statistics – Name of the subject to be recognized” field, the credit obtained for the subject in the “Statistics – ETCS credits achieved” field and the grade obtained for the subject in the “Statistics – Grade achieved” field.

If you want to accept more than one subject as equivalent to a subject, please indicate them separated by commas.
Your credit recognition request will be evaluated based on the form and on the supporting documents you upload onto your DreamApply profile. Once you have indicated the subjects you wish to have recognised, please review your DreamApply profile and see if you have uploaded all supporting documents as proof that you indeed had completed the ECTS you have indicated in the form. It is important to note that without supporting documents, your credit recognition request will be invalid. Document uploading can be done both while completing the credit recognition request and after it has been submitted.

Please read the data management policy.

After clicking on the “Submit” button, the credit recognition request will be submitted.

Once submitted, the following message will appear on the page:

3. Upload documents
The documents certifying the completion of the subjects indicated in credit recognition request (copy of the transcript of records, or diploma supplement, etc.) (for subjects completed abroad, a certified transcript of records in Hungarian or English is also required) must be uploaded to your DreamApply profile. Without uploading these documents, the submitted credit recognition request will be invalid and will not be considered.
A document bearing the signature and stamp of the representative of the issuing institution, or an electronic signature certificate is considered to be an official document. It is important that all pages of the document are uploaded in good quality and are legible.
If you are applying for more than one Master’s degree and you need to request the credit recognition procedure for more than one Master’s degree, you must submit a separate request for each Master’s degree. It is important to note that all credit recognition requests must be accompanied by all the documents certifying the completion of the subjects for which recognition is sought.
