This satirical comedy offers a grotesque mirror to post-regime-change Hungary, where the shadows of the past collide with the absurdities of the present in a bizarre wedding tale. Péter Tímár’s film cleverly explores not only the farce of political transformation but also the survival tactics of the everyday citizen. The characters are exaggerated yet eerily familiar—like a surreal cabaret sketch drawn straight from Hungarian reality. Whack the Donkey! provokes both laughter and reflection: a tragicomic take on transition that still speaks to us today.  

The cast is stellar—Mari Törőcsik, Róbert Koltai, Károly Eperjes among the unforgettable ensemble.
