The Pendragon Legend (1974)

Mysticism, excitement, humor, history, romance, investigation, and extraordinary adventures blend together in this film adaptation of Antal Szerb’s novel. A mysterious English castle, ghosts, and ancient family legends set the stage for this intriguing tale.

Hungarian scholar János Bátky researches the secrets of the Rosicrucians in London libraries. A highly educated man, he enjoys socializing and spending evenings in various company. At a grand soirée, he meets the head of the Pendragon family, who invites him to his Welsh castle, offering him access to rare books. Several warn Bátky that the noble family harbors dark secrets, but the ancient library proves too enticing. He embarks on his journey, only to find himself at the heart of a tangled mystery. Ghostly apparitions emerge in the night, someone seeks to end the Earl’s life, a mysterious ring surfaces, and dubious characters arrive.

The discussion will be led by Júlia Sipos and the Film Club participants.
