About the research

The dissertation examines how digital transformation technologies and artificial intelligence are reshaping personnel selection – an area traditionally seen as inherently human-centric.

Part of the research systematically reviews 94 international studies to map which digital solutions appear at each stage of the selection process, categorising practices as Manual, Digitalized or Digitally Transformed. The dissertation also looks specifically at the spread of asynchronous video interviews and at how candidates themselves perceive and engage with this selection method.

The findings set out both the benefits of these technologies, which are efficiency gains, the potential for reducing bias, and an improved candidate experience, while also emphasise their limits: ethical concerns, algorithmic bias, and technical and cultural barriers to adoption.
