The seminar is dedicated to advancing research in the field of finance and financial economics and to publishing this research successfully in quality journals. It particularly addresses the following fields of interest:
- The publishing environment in finance and economics
- The elements of a good research paper
- The structural components of delivering research contribution
- The particularities of the peer-review process
- Discussing and improving ongoing research projects
By participating in the course, participants learn about the crucial strategic considerations for selecting the right peer-reviewed journal for their work, ensuring a good fit with its aims and scopes. It provides guidance on how to significantly enhance the content quality of their papers through up-to-date methods and precise documentation. Participants will learn to aim at crafting a compelling narrative that powerfully communicates their unique contribution and its economic implications. The course stresses effective presentation techniques, from adhering to journal guidelines to writing in a clear and engaging manner. Furthermore, participants gain invaluable, practical insight into the editor’s perspective, understanding the review process and how to avoid a desk rejection. Ultimately, the workshop equips participants with a comprehensive toolkit to increase chances of successful publication in academic journals.
Preparation
The seminar is addressed to participants who actively want to enhance success in their research and in the publication of research results. Participants should have acquired skills in independent academic research and have set themselves on a track record of academic publishing. In advance of the seminar, it is recommended to read the references noted at the end of this syllabus, which will be made available on the course website.
Participants can attend the course without registration. However, those who have a finished working paper are invited to register for a paper discussion at: niklas.wagner@uni-passau.de
