University Film Club Returns Lesson Learned Screening to Feature Special Guest Director

The University Film Club will continue in the autumn semester, starting with Lesson Learned (Fekete pont, 2024), a critically acclaimed independent Hungarian film. After the screening, the director, Bálint Szimler will answer the questions.
The language of the screening and the discussion will be in Hungarian.
Young teacher Juci rebels against archaic school methods as Palkó, a new foreign student, struggles to adapt to Hungary’s demanding education system. Their stories mirror societal oppression. Lesson Learned blends subtle grotesque elements, and was created as an independent film through the collaboration of several Hungarian producers.
The cinematographer of the film was Marcell Rév, who won an Emmy Award for the series Euphoria, while the director, Bálint Szimler’s first short film, Here I Am has been screened in Cannes. The film has also been selected for the 2024 competition program at the Locarno International Film Festival.
