    Further info about research: A kutatás jelentősen hozzájárul a helyi élelmiszerrendszerek témakörét tárgyaló tudományos diskurzusokon belüli ellentmondások feloldásához, a vásárlók és termelők személyes döntéseiben és a vidéki területek társadalomgazdasági jólétében játszott szerepének feltárásához. A helyi gazdaságfejlesztés sikertörténetei gyakran a fenntartható turizmuson, a többfunkciós mezőgazdaságon és az élménygazdaságon alapulnak. E szektoron belül a magas hozzáadott értékű termékek előállítása jelentős potenciált képvisel a kisgazdaságok, a fenntartható gazdálkodás és általában a helyi gazdaság segítésében. Mindazonáltal a helyi élelmiszerrendszer diskurzusokon belül megoldatlan feszültségek és dilemmák léteznek: ki a termékek fő célközönsége (helyi lakosok avagy városban élők, turisták); mi a rendszer fő célkitűzése (környezeti és társadalmi fenntarthatóság avagy gazdasági növekedés); van-e ellentét a mítosz és a realitás, vagyis a helyi élelmiszerrendszernek a turizmusban kialakított képe illetve a helyi környezetre és a társadalmi-gazdasági jólétre gyakorolt hatásai között. Kutatásunk a fenti kérdéseket a Balaton-felvidék egy kis régiójában, a Magyar Provencenak is nevezett Káli-medencében vizsgálja. Ez a terület napjainkban válik meghatározó turisztikai célponttá, így kiváló terepe a folyamatok valós időben történő vizsgálatához. Kis földrajzi területen, multidiszciplináris megközelítésben alkalmazunk kvantitatív és kvalitatív módszereket. Mindez hozzájárul ahhoz az új, dinamikus elemzési kerethez, ami végső soron lehetővé teszi majd, hogy a helyi élelmiszerrendszerek, a fenntartható turizmus, vidék- és helyi gazdaságfejlesztés témakörében jelentős új eredményeket mutathassunk fel.

    Further info about research: This research will produce a significant scientific contribution by addressing contradictions within discourses about local food systems (LFSs), and by defining their role in the choices of consumers, producers and the socio-economic wellbeing of rural areas. Success stories of local economic development are often based on sustainable tourism, multifunctional agriculture and the experience economy. Within this sector local food systems (LFSs) producing culturally-based, high value-added local products represent an important potential to improve farm incomes, promote sustainable farming systems, and contribute to local economic regeneration. However, there are unresolved tensions and dilemmas within the discourses on LFS, concerning who the targeted consumers are (local dwellers versus urban customers); what the nature of the main objectives are (environmental & social versus economic); and what are the effect on local environment and socio-economic wellbeing versus the marketing image projected to the external world. Our research will investigate these issues in a small region, the Káli-basin in the Balaton-uplands of Hungary. Its current emergence as an attractive tourist destination – the ‘Hungarian Provence’, provides the opportunity for an evolutionary approach. Concentrating on a relatively small geographic area and using both quantitative and qualitative methods in an interdisciplinary framework allows us to collect substantial new data, create a dynamic framework for analysis and contribute to the international literature on local food systems, sustainable tourism, rural and local economic development, and also short food supply chains.
