AI Transformation: Corvinus and one of Asia’s most prominent universities held a joint conference

Scientific lectures, exhibition and market-oriented networking: a large-scale international academic and professional event was created thanks to the cooperation concluded with the Chinese University of Hong Kong in the spring.

A remarkable event series was held on October 24-25 at the Corvinus Gellért Campus: the AI Transformation Conference and the Chinese-Hungarian AI Summit, organized jointly by Corvinus University of Budapest and the Shenzhen Research Institute of Chinese University of Hong Kong (the 36th most prestigious university in the world according to QS classification, 44th in THE ranking). 

The conference was opened by László Bódis, Deputy State Secretary for Innovation: “In connection with the joint project launched today by Corvinus University of Budapest and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, it is no exaggeration to say that it is one of the flagship programs for the internationalization of the Hungarian research and innovation ecosystem. Our strategic goal is to create as many technological companies as possible in our universities and research institutes capable of producing high added value and successful in foreign markets. Corvinus University will work together with the 44th best university in the world to achieve this goal, as it will help the actors of the Hungarian innovation ecosystem to acquire the world-class knowledge that has made Chinese technology companies among the world’s leading companies in recent years.” – highlighted Mr. Bódis. 

Further speakers of the conference were: 

  • Dr. Rong Chen, Director of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Strategy Research Center, Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Bureau,  
  • Prof. Wai Yee Chan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Vice-President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong,  
  • Prof. Yeung Yam, Director of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Research Institute,  
  • Prof. Charaf Hassan, Rector of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics,  
  • Prof. Zoltán Szántó, Vice-Rector for Research of Corvinus University of Budapest, as host. 

Thanks to the unique academic cooperation agreement called Academic and Innovation Matrix (AIM) on 6 March 2024, initiated by Prof. Yam and Prof. Baranyi, and part of the One Road, One Belt initiative, during the event, concrete cooperation and business negotiations took place between Hungarian AI development start-ups, companies, university research groups, as well as the delegation of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Strategy Research Center, and Chinese companies. This agreement enhances both countries’ firms, products and services to enter the other national market, and manages joint developments, supports research groups and large corporate development companies to find new target groups 

At the conference, well-reknowed scientists gave lectures, among them:  

  • Prof. Nesterov, World Laureate Association Prize-winning mathematician and professor of the CIAS Institute of Corvinus University of Budapest. He has had a huge impact on the adacemic world for generations, his algorithms and theories were game changing discoveries across multiple fields.  
  • Prof. Davenport, a legend in data analytics, AI and business innovation, ranked among the top 25 consultants in the world, as well as among the top 3 business technology analysts and the 100 most influential people in the IT industry.  
  • Prof. Meng, a prominent scientist from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in AI-based cognitive and intelligent perception.  
  • Prof. Péter Baranyi, professor of Corvinus University of Budapest, creator of the mathematical TP model transformation, which brought a breakthrough in the theory of highly complex control systems and can be applied in the optimization of AI systems.  
  • Prof. Spender, a notable researcher in knowledge management and strategic management.  

The main organizers of the conference were Prof. Péter Baranyi, professor of CIAS and AI institutes at Corvinus University of Budapest, and Prof. Yeung Yam. The event was organized with the partnership of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and supported by The National Research, Development and Innovation Office of Hungary.  

The accompanying event of the conference was a large AI professional and technology exhibition, which was attended by 50-60 exhibitors, including Hungarian and Chinese firms, and academic and research institutions.
