The Municipality of Székesfehérvár awarded the Mayoral Medal to András Lánczi, former rector of Corvinus University of Budapest to recognise his outstanding service in higher education in the city of Székesfehérvár. The medal was awarded by Mayor András Cser-Palkovics at the City Hall on 13 July 2021.
Corvinus University of Budapest and the Municipality of Székesfehérvár signed a cooperation agreement to launch the Székesfehérvár Campus in the autumn of 2015. The Székesfehérvár Campus opened in September 2016 offering bachelor’s, master’s and specialist postgraduate programmes also in the form of dual training.
The Mayor emphasized Mr. Lánczi’s contribution to improving higher education and developing constructive relations between the University and the City of Székesfehérvár for the ultimate benefit of all students.
András Lánczi was rector of Corvinus University of Budapest for six years, successfully stabilising one of the best Hungarian universities both economically and professionally. His support of academic development ensured a higher level of international openness by renewing the structural framework and content of doctoral programmes and establishing the Corvinus Institute for Advanced Studies, among others. Recognising the lack of competition in Hungarian higher education he successfully paved the way for the structural transformation of Corvinus University.
As the mandate of Mr. Lánczi expired on 30 June 2021, the university foundation launched a call for the position of rector. On 24 June President János Áder appointed his successor Előd Takáts, who will take office on 1 August 2021.
