Conference report about the 2023 Radboud University Summer School:
I had the pleasure to participate in the Migrant Inclusion policies and practice course, within the Radboud University Summer School, held the Nijmegen, on July 10-14, 2023.
The course of migrant inclusion policies and practice is well relevant to my PhD thesis topic. I not only attended the sessions, which were a mix of theoretical as well as practical and case study-oriented sessions, but I had the chance to present my PhD proposal and also receive constructive feedback. Moreover, I and the other participants visited the municipality of Nijmegen, where I learned about how migration governance at the local level is being executed. Then we visited a migrant reception center known as (Gezellig Nijmegen; „Cosy Nijmegen”), where I also learned about the role of civil society organizations in the inclusion of immigrants. Special thanks to Corvinus University of Budapest for covering registration fees to attend this important summer school.

Sociology conference at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic

Report
This report provides an overview of the Conference held at Charles University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, in Prague, Czech Republic.
I presented a segment of my paper on Russian Sharp Power, aiming to analyze the intricate dynamics of disinformation, censorship, propaganda, and collective resentment at the societal level. To achieve this, I employed a comprehensive theoretical framework rooted in the disciplines of sociology, social psychology, and cultural studies. This framework integrated elements from Ronald Inglehart’s Cultural Change theory, Kalevi Holsti’s Role Theory, Irving Janis’ Groupthink theory, and Geert Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions.
The primary objective of participating in the conference was not only to represent Corvinus University of Budapest but also to draw inspiration from sociological insights and gather valuable feedback and comments from scholars directly involved in the field.

San Francisco, California, USA; April 3rd – 6th, 2024
| It was amazing and effective to attend in such a big event on International Studies that actually attracted significant number of pioneer scholars of International Relations across the globe. I met with some of them in my discipline of Forced Migration too. I am really grateful to my Corvinus University of Budapest for providing me the travel grants. I presented my paper from my broader doctoral topic in the Early Career Workshop (ECW) which offered an immense opportunity to receive additional discussion and feedback on my presentation as well as on my overall PhD project. The chair of session—from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore—appreciated my research and commented on my PhD project. He advised me to be focused on the research gap and contribute in the discipline at my best. Moreover, session chair highlighted on the theory of my research through which he foreseen scope of contribution to the limitation in the theory itself. After the presentation, few other scholars from different universities commented and shared their perception on different scopes and challenges regarding my research. A professor from University of Manchester asked several questions on my research context, reflecting enthusiastically she wished for an excellent piece of dissertation eventually. I think the entire session was engaging and replied the audience precisely. I noted down most of the comments and feedback as a great possibility to enrich my dissertation. In addition to my session, I attended to other sessions just as listener. Actually there were several other relevant sessions but I could not join. I was busy with some volunteering. I would say, it was amazing to volunteering in such a great event. I mainly performed at the registration and badge pick up point. During this responsibility, I met and greet many distinguished professors. I have read their works but there I met with them in person, sometime they asked me about my affiliation and research too. It is indeed inspirational for me. Last but not least, in between the conference I had some chances to visit some mesmerizing sights in San Francisco, California, USA. Again, I thanked the university to support me for this great opportunity of research and learning. |

Lived transnationalism in times of violent conflict – Cross-border connections and mobilities of people, goods and capital; Paper presentation and PhD Training Participation

Gustav-Stresemann-Institute Bonn, Germany; 27-28 March 2023.
Relevant to my PhD project (Protracted Exile and Agencies of Refugees: A Case of Rohingya Refugee in Bangladesh)
| Symposium name: Lived Transnationalism —- and PhD workshop Participants: apprx. 40 (senior professor, academics, PhD candidate) Participating affiliation: mostly from Europe (dominantly UK, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden) Number of papers: 20. Outcome (tentative): Editorial volume or special issue (not promised). It was really a lively and effective symposium and PhD training on refugee and migration at large. It focused on transnational and translocal life-mobility of refugees and migrant in which I had the scope to share my research on Rohingya refugees’ life in the camps in Bangladesh in translocal connection with host community people and actors. It enriched me with the event’s overall outcome of analysing refugee issue with many actors in transnational connection such as state actors, non-state actors (NGOs, INGOs, IO etc). However, I am not applying this approach of transnationalism in my research, it has widened my scope of thinking and analysing my data critically. Now I find myself more equipped and confident in developing my thesis from more critical angle of international relations. Moreover, the symposium ended by following a workshop for some twenty PhD candidate as well as presenters in the symposium in which the trainer professor offered participatory discussion and feedback on some of our individual research project. It covered many issues of conducting research with people in conflict and violence not exhaustive to methods, ethical issues of data collection and using data in the final thesis, connecting theories with the findings. |
Humanitarian futures
NCHS Humanitarian studies conference, Oslo, Norway, 7-8 June, 2023.
The ‘Humanitarian Futures’ conference was held on 7 and 8 June 2023 and explored the developments, risks, ideals and policies characterising the transformation of humanitarian assistance.
As a panelist, I discussed the complexities of humanitarian governance in Rohingya Refugee Response in Bangladesh. The overview covered the mode of participation and exercising of power by the state actors, non-state actors and refugees in the camps. My other colleagues shared their respective experience of operating in refugee camps, and overall discussion illustrated a scenario of climax and future of growing humanitarian actions for forcibly displaced people across the globe.

The Impact of Presenting Research at the Spring Wind Conference on Professional Development: A Case Study on the Protection of Human Rights of Women in the Context of International Migration Crisis By: Nour Al Wattar
Participating in the Spring Wind Conference and presenting my research on „The Protection of Human Rights of Women in the Context of International Migration Crisis” has significantly contributed to my professional development.
Firstly, the conference provided me with a valuable platform to showcase my research and expertise in the field of human rights and international migration. Presenting my research to a diverse audience of scholars allowed me to receive constructive feedback, engage in stimulating discussions, and broaden my perspectives. This experience enhanced my presentation and communication skills, as well as my ability to defend my research in a critical and scholarly manner.
Moreover, the opportunity to present my research in front of esteemed professors Erika and Bence, who are former colleagues of my supervisor Dr. Kirs Eszter, was truly invaluable. Their presence as chairs of the section not only added credibility to the session but also facilitated networking opportunities. I had the privilege to connect with them personally, exchange ideas, and discuss future research prospects.
Additionally, participation in the conference allowed me to establish a wide range of contacts and collaborations. I engaged in conversations with fellow researchers, practitioners, and graduate students who shared similar research interests. These interactions led to meaningful discussions, sharing of resources, and the potential for future collaborations. The connections I made at the conference expanded my professional network and provided opportunities for knowledge exchange, joint research endeavors, and collaborations on academic publications.
Overall, participating in the Spring Wind Conference and presenting my research not only contributed to my professional development but also helped raise the visibility of the University. The connections and collaborations established at the event have the potential to lead to fruitful partnerships, joint research projects, and academic advancements. I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated in such an enriching conference and to have represented my university at this event.

I gained valuable experiences both academic and personal point of views. I collected useful ideas how to utilize narratives in my research scheme, and how to extend my cases study pool of the research.
The inclusivity was excellent at the event, as they were providing all support to participate in the conference with my 2 months old baby.
