’Resilient Networks’ POMS International Conference 2022 was hosted by Corvinus in Budapest

Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) held its International Conference 2022 under the theme of ’Resilient Networks’ in Budapest between June 29-July 1, 2022. The three-day hybrid conference was hosted by Corvinus University providing participants the experience of being in a historical, landmark building with an amazing view of the Danube.

The conference was opened by Gyula Vastag, Program Chair, the welcome addresses were delivered by Anthony Radev (President, Corvinus University), Nagesh Murthy (President-Elect, POMS) and Sushil Gupta (Executive Director, POMS).

The first keynote entitled ‘Integrated Data-driven Solutions in Decision-Making Systems’ was given by Zuo-Jun (Max) Shen (President, POMS, University of California Berkeley, USA), who was introduced by Amit Eynan, Program Co-Chair.  

’Resilient Networks’ POMS International Conference 2022 was attended by 107 participants from 19 countries with 71 of them being onsite in Budapest. By affiliation, the top five countries were the United States, Hungary, France, India and Canada. The POMS International Conference 2022 Budapest consisted of eight tracks: Data Science and Business Analytics, Emerging Topics in Operations Management, Health Care and Service Operations, Inventory Management, Networks, Public Sector Operations, Retail Operations/Revenue Management, Sustainable Operations.  

The conference also offered several Special and Meet-the-Editors sessions.  

The first special session ‘Managing Universities: Changing Management Models and Ownership Structures’ was moderated by Gyula Vastag, Program Chair with Rohit Verma (Founding Provost, VinUniversity, Vietnam) introducing the model of VinUniversity. This session was followed by ‘The Future of Business Education’ talk moderated by Amit Eynan, Program Co-Chair with online presentation by Dilip Chhajed (Associate Dean for Online Programs and Strategic Innovations at Krannert School of Management, Purdue University).  

The Meet-the-Editors sessions featured editors of several top journals and representatives of Academic Journal Guide, Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier (listed in the order of conference schedule):

In addition to the opening plenary, there were three plenary sessions during the conference. On June 30 Laura Sinoros-Szabó (Department Head, Ministry for Innovation and Technology, Hungary) had a talk on ‘Shifting of gears in Hungarian higher education’. 

Friday’s plenary speaker was Péter Kaderják (Head of Zero Carbon Hub at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Policy at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Hungary). His talk ‘Quo vadis European energy markets? – shocks and lessons from the last decade’ also attracted a lot of interest and questions from the audience.  

The cultural highlight of the conference was Thursday afternoon and evening, when the talk of ‘Hollywood on the Danube’ presented by Timothy Havens (University of Iowa, USA) was followed by a breath-taking cruise and conference dinner on the Danube.  

The conference in Budapest was closed with a guided tour of the historical building of Corvinus led by Vilmos Zsidi (Head of Corvinus Archives).  

’Resilient Networks’ POMS International Conference provided a great opportunity for production operations management experts and scholars from all around the world to meet both online and offline in the heart of Europe, share their latest research results and expand their professional networks.
