Educational and Research Cooperation with Hungarian Service and Outsourcing Association

In the last 15 years, Hungarian business services centers (e.g. Morgan Stanley, IBM, GE, IT Services, BT, and many more) have grown to become one of the fastest growing and biggest employment segment of the Hungarian economy.

In the last 15 years, Hungarian business services centers (e.g. Morgan Stanley, IBM, GE, IT Services, BT, and many more) have grown to become one of the fastest growing and biggest employment segment of the Hungarian economy. According to the latest market data, nearly 100 business services centers operate in our country, employing about 55.000 intellectual workers directly but more than 100.000 people serve the segment indirectly. The industry representation and professional cooperation of these business services centers are provided by the Hungarian Service and Outsourcing Association (HOA).

The Institute of Management at the Corvinus University of Budapest and the Hungarian Service and Outsourcing Association (HOA) concluded a strategic cooperation on education and research in 2017. According to the agreement, the experts of the Institute of Management Science, with the leading of Dr. György Drótos, director of the Institute, and Dr. Róbert Marciniak, assistant professor support the development of HOA's education and research portfolio. In this cooperation, the first step was to foster the HOA's regular annual industry benchmarking survey. For the fifth time in this year, HOA analyzed the Hungarian business services market and trends, key organizational features of market players. From this year the experts of the Institute of Management participated in the forming, conducting and analyzing of the research. It was a pleasure that more demonstrators of the Institute (Sarolta Nagy, Fanni Szabó) were also involved in the professional work. In addition to regular benchmarking analysis, this year's research focused on the most important trends in the segment (e.g. labor shortages, talent management, automation and robotization, and organizational maturity of the centers).

The publication of the research results took place on 17th of November at HOA's annual gala dinner with a wide participation of the segment companies. Corvinus Business School was represented on the gala by Dr. Zita Zoltay Paprika, dean, Dr. Márta Aranyossy, Director of Corporate Relations and Dr. Róbert Marciniak, Assistant Professor. Based on the research results of the HOA benchmarking survey and the leadership performance of the business service centers in the last year, several excellence awards were handed out. Among these awards, the best-performing company in educational cooperation was the IT Services, and the award was taken over by Dr. Zita Zoltay Paprika.

Another outstanding part of the gala event was the appointment and introduction of HOA's three new working group leaders to the segment's companies. In the following year, Dr. Róbert Marciniak will be in charge of the HOA educational workgroup. Dr. Robert Marciniak said that it has been an old problem for the whole segment that there is no dedicated education and training portfolio that could support business service centers. HOA's new working group wants to bridge this gap by linking business needs and educational and training opportunities. Dr. Róbert Marciniak hopes that the Corvinus University of Budapest will be able to take part in this educational portfolio, and will strengthen its role in the training of the middle and top management of the segment companies in the future.
