A tantárgy szakmai tartalma: The course aims to highlight the most important issues of Climate Change and Sustainable Development. Due to the challenges of our rapidly changing world like mitigation of and adaptation at climate change impacts, the need for radical (system) innovation, or solving social, environmental and economic problems simultaneously, the triple bottom line has become both an issue at international policy making levels and a business case in the corporate world. The course focuses on complex global issues and their interconnections, aiming to provide perspectives and a set of tools on how to manage those issues.

Évközi tanulmányi követelmények: In groups of 3, students have to elaborate the climate strategy of a specific country/region (distributed in the class: e.g. USA, China, Russia, Europe, Africa, South-America, SIDS, Oil states, etc.), prepare a background paper (20 pages) and a presentation (10-15 minutes) of the chosen region.
Paper and presentation should be uploaded into the moodle until the deadline (Week 10).
After student groups presented their strategy and position, there will be a role play of a climate summit, where the aim is to come to an agreement about global climate policy for the future. Students have to negotiate with each other on climate issues and imitate real-world negotiation process. The ultimate goal is to find a global solution to climate change, take the right measures on policy level and effectively utilise the tools of adaptation and mitigation.

Az értékelés módszere: Grades are earned by the students based on their class attendance, class participation, their achievements in the assignments and final exam.

Individual essay plus participation in the related discussion: 10%
Group assignment: Background paper (20 pages) and presentation: 30%
Class attendance (active participation) and role play: 10%
Final exam: 50 %

Tananyag leírása: The course is based on a systematic combination of lectures, guest lectures and seminars. The lectures follow a specific structure, focusing on the most relevant issues of climate change and sustainability are presented by the course leaders and guest lecturers. The guest lecturers are professionals who provide an up-to-date insight into the policy making or the theories.
The issues presented in the class are always discussed with the students; reflection and feedback build a very important part of the course.
Assignments also serve the in-depth understanding of most crucial and debated sustainability and climate issues. The complex assignment, supported by the lectures aims to systematically build up the world of global negotiations on climate change.
Required literature is intended to help students elaborate homework assignment, prepare for the next class as well as for the exam. Required literature must be supplemented by individually acquired information.
Students are expected to be continuously present during the course and actively participate in discussions – their performance is evaluated and integrated into the grading procedure.
At the end of the course students have to take an exam, which is primarily aims at testing the intended learning outcomes, especially the ability of students to formulate a well-based and well-structured opinion on ambiguous sustainability- and climate change-related issues, to use a convincing argumentation which reflects both their knowledge and understanding.

Félévközi ellenőrzések: 

A hallgató egyéni munkával megoldandó feladatai: Finding an up-to-date scientific paper (15-20 pages long) in a serious, peer reviewed journal which is dealing with the methods of regulating climate change. Writing an essay of 5-6 pages where the student summarizes the main points and message of the paper, plus expresses his/her opinion, by commenting on it with pro and contra arguments.
