A tantárgy szakmai tartalma: During the semester the participating students analyse the local government systems at system level focusing on the formal and informal institutions. Through the existing scientific literature we are going to present those economic institutions, which affect the evolution of the local government systems. After a thorough theoretical introduction, the institutional framework of the local government systems is going to be analysed, using the methodology of comparative economics, in the European Union. We are going to focus especially on the local government systems in the new member states. Each of the different types of local government systems will be presented through an example of a country with belong to the given local government system.

Évközi tanulmányi követelmények: The attendance on the seminars is compulsory. Those students, who miss more than two seminars during the semester, cannot fulfil the requirements of the course. During the semester students are going to prepare an essay, as a home assignment, using the reading materials of the course. In the essay they will review the given articles and looking for such articles which are tackling with the theoretical statements of those articles. The students should also delineate their own opinions. The essay must not exceed of 5-6 pages, using, Times New Roman 12, 1,5 line-space and the usual margin.

Vizsgakövetelmény: At the end of the semester the students write a final exam.

Az értékelés módszere: Home assignment accounts for 50%, written final exam account for 50%.
