About us

The Department of Finance is part of the Institute of Finance and Accounting at Corvinus University of Budapest. Though organizationally we belong to the Faculty of Business Administration, we also hold courses for students of the Faculty of Economics. This reflects our philosophy: we consider finance as a science being a part of both „economics” and „business”, this way we intend to bridge the gap between academic rigor and real-world impact.

Our educational activity is focused on the following areas:

  • corporate finance
  • business valuation
  • asset pricing and financial markets
  • risk management
  • financial mathematics

Our department is one of the leading academic departments of finance in Hungary. We’ve been transmitting the most up-to-date knowledge to our students for more than a decade. Our staff took part in translating numerous mainstream textbook in the field of finance that are considered international standards and tought worldwide. Our curriculum is in line with the requirements of reputed international organizations such as CFA – Chartered Financial Analyst and EFFAS – European Federation of Financial Analysts’ Societies. Our main objective is that our students – possessing high-level theoretical and practical knowledge – perform outstandingly when working for a company, a bank, a national organ or a consulting company, are able to solve problems independently and capable of creative, research-oriented work. We are proud that the brightest and most dedicated students attend our programs at both graduate and postgraduate levels and that the significant proportion of professionals working in the financial sector of Hungary had their degree or qualification at our department.

Our events:

Corvinus Lectures in Finance

In the autumn of 2012, our department initiates a series of events that include lectures open to our students, alumni and the larger public. The events host professionals from the corporate world to talk about selected topics in finance ranging from market happenings affecting their firms to novice scientific findings. Our aim is to:
1. provide our academic and professional partners with a platform to reach out to an educated and highly-motivated audience;
2. open the opportunity for our alumni to meet and interact, with the purpose of maintaining contact with their Alma Mater and for furthering their studies;
3. keep our current students up-to-date with the industry’s latest achievement, development and news.
