Kazakh-Hungarian Summit on Higher Education at the Corvinus University of Budapest| 2018.03.08.

On 28 February 2018 Corvinus was home to the first Kazakh-Hungarian Rectors' Forum organized by the Hungarian Rectors' Conference. The aim of the event was to deepen the co-operation of the two countries in higher education.

As the host of the meeting, András Lánczi Rector of the Corvinus University of Budapest greeted the participants. Mr. Lánczi said that such events offered a great opportunity to get to know each other and to stimulate contacts. The rector stressed that Corvinus was committed to strengthening the relations with the Central Asian region, as demonstrated by the establishment of the Central Asian Research Centre at the university last year.

Kairat Abdrakhmanov Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan said that his country considered the modernization of higher education as an important pillar in the renewal of Kazakhstan for which Hungary served as an excellent example. The foreign minister emphasized that although many Kazakh students were already studying in Hungary owing to the Stipendium Hungaricum program and other programs, co-operation can be further strengthened and the rectors’ meeting represented an essential step in that respect.

The foreign minister’s words were reaffirmed by Bibigul Asylova Vice-minister of Education. The vice-minister declared that Kazakhstan was interested in getting acquainted with and applying the best practices in higher education of the OECD and EU countries. She went on to say that since the launch of the Stipendium Hungaricum program in 2013, the number of Kazakh students arriving in Hungary has increased continuously. In the most recent application period over 1000 such applications were valuated.

The heads of twenty-five Hungarian and twenty-two Kazakh institutions took part in the forum. At the time of the forum Kairat Abdrakhmanov Foreign Minister talked to students pursuing their studies in Hungary in the framework of the Stipendium Hungaricum program who reported about their positive experience of the university and Hungary.
